Ben Sisam, a former NZ professional boxer, kickboxer and amateur mixed martial arts competitor from 2008 - 2022, identified there was a low amount of quality boxing and martial arts gear being sold in NZ, and he wanted to change that. In 2023, Brawla was launched with the aim of introducing high-quality gear to the NZ market at competitive prices.
